![]() Cassidy Serhienko Thank God and Sarah J Maas that this book was better than the hot mess that was ACOWAR. Okay, ‘hot mess’ might be a bit of an exaggeration but what’s life without a little drama? I picked this novella up a couple of days after it was published, and I didn’t really have super high expectations for it. After finishing a Court of Wings and Ruin I was raving about it, but once the initial excitement subsided I realized that I didn’t actually love this conclusion to the trilogy. I was satisfied with where everything ended but I felt like it dragged in places it shouldn’t have and then rushed through better, more important scenes. Plain and simple, it just wasn’t as good as the first two books. I thought that A Court of Mist and Fury was absolutely amazing, and honestly after being so awesome in that book Feyre and Rhysand both fell a little flat for me in ACOWAR. I was worried that this book was going to be more of the same, but to a certain extent it actually restored the oomph in their relationship that had been missing in the last book. For which I am grateful because I couldn’t bear to see my snarky babies reduced to more of the syrupy sweet, lame ass banter that saturated ACOWAR. I’ve seen a lot of reviews slamming A Court of Frost and Starlight because they felt like it was all fluff and that Nesta’s storyline sucked. I can understand this point of view but I completely disagree. No there is no real plot, but there isn’t supposed to be. This is a bridge between the original trilogy and the next books and for me it served its purpose. I loved this series but I haven’t been pumped to sign on for 8 more books or whatever it is, but ACOFAS got me excited again. Plus I found it a more satisfying conclusion to Feyre and Rhysand’s POV. Even though there’s no plot, it isn’t just fluff. It doesn’t make light of the events of the war and it’s more about everyone trying to pick up their own individual pieces then it is about Feysand smut. There are things I like and things I don’t like about Nesta’s storyline. I can understand why some people didn’t like it because she is so incredibly frustrating but seriously, she’s always been a stone cold bitch. It’s not like she’s been easy to deal with when she actually gets her way, why would she suddenly be all “Go team!” now? I appreciate the fact that we actually got to see her struggling with being changed and with her role in the war. The only issue that I have is how she completely cut off Elaine when really her only redeeming quality thus far has been how protective she is of her. It’s a testament to Nesta’s state of mind, but I find it incredibly out of character for her to essentially just walk out on her. I also haven’t decided how I feel about Tamlin in this book. To be honest I had pretty much forgotten about Feyre tearing shit up in the Spring Court, but this all felt like just a little bit much, especially considering he was more or less fine in ACOWAR if a little douchey. Seriously, he saves Rhysand’s life for Feyre, they end the war on semi-decent terms and now we’re doing this whole song and dance again? It feels like we’re taking one step forward and ten steps back and I’m honestly just tired of this clown being relevant. I’m going to remain hopeful that Sarah J. Maas works some magic and makes me give a shit about what happens with him again but I’m really hoping he just gets killed off. Get rid of him and give Lucien a better damn story, that’s really all I want in life. To sum it up, I thought it was a good setup for the next books and a much better send off for Feyre and Rhysand’s point of view and it definitely exceeded my expectations for the amount of depth that could be packed into 229 pages.
